New Chess Club @ ASU

My name is Jeff Green, and I am the President of the Chess Club @ ASU. The purpose of the Chess Club @ ASU is to promote the social, intellectual, academic and physical benefits of chess to the university and local communities, and our website is I am writing to inform you of the new presence presence of the Chess Club @ ASU as a tournament organizer. We have started two brand new tournament series: the Sparky Spectacular and ASU Action Chess tournaments. The former consists of standard G/60 Saturday tournaments, and the latter of Sunday G/30 cash-prize tournaments. In addition, we hold open club meetings for informal play on Thursday nights from 5-10pm, and we run a Wednesday afternoon recruitment table from 10:30am-2:00pm. Any interested parties can view our new website,, for detailed information on all our events. In addition to being a chess tournament organizer and a college chess club/competitive team, the Chess Club @ ASU also intends to function as a central chess hub for all players in the Phoenix area. To this end, we have tried to schedule events so that they do not overlap with other established events, and we advertise a full calendar of all events for established tournament providers that pertain to players in the valley. See for the full Phoenix-area schedule. Other activities of the Chess Club @ ASU include performing chess-related community service and fielding a competitive chess team at the Pan American Intercollegiate Championship. We are also interested in hosting free chess events purely for the benefit of chess in Arizona, such as hosting the Arizona Scorpions team matches. One further detail: the Chess Club @ ASU mainly caters to adults, as its primary community is college students. As such, many of our events are limited to adults or people of at least high-school-age. However, our Sparky Spectacular tournaments are open to ANY rated USCF member. On behalf of the Chess Club @ ASU, I am very excited to promote chess in the community with you. Sincerely, Jeff Green President, Chess Club @ ASU
