The Sedona Open and Scholastic Chess Tournament and the Col. Paul Webb Arizona State Chess Championship

The Sedona Open and Scholastic Chess Tournament is a five round swiss system chess tournament which will be held Saturday Dec. 16th, 2006 at the Verde Valley School in Sedona. It will run concurrently with The Col. Paul Webb Arizona State Chess Championship, an invitational round robin for the Arizona state championship. Come spend the weekend in Sedona. Play Chess, watch the state championship, and enjoy the beauty of the red rock country of Northern Arizona. This is a great tournament for scholastic players as a warm-up to the grade championship in January and a great way to support the state championship and chess in Arizona! Profits from this tournament will be used to support the state championship tournament. Come and see six of the best players in the state battle it out to see who will be declared the state champion. There are many things to do in the Sedona and Verde Valley area for the entire family making this a great weekend for chess and fun! Directions: I-17 to Exit 298 to Sedona (state route 179), take state route 179 to the Verde Valley School Rd in the Village of Oak Creek. Turn left on the Verde Valley School Rd and go 3 miles to the school. The Sedona Open and Scholastics is played in 4 Sections. The Time Control for all sections is Game in 30 minutes. The sections are: Open Open to All. Scholastics: K-3 (Kindergarten through 3rd grade) K-6 (Kindergarten through 6th grade) K-12 (Kindergarten through High School) The prizes are: Open: 1st - $100, 2nd - $50, 3rd - $25, Best under 1600 - $25. Scholastics: Trophies to the top five in each section.
